As with any society, Hawthorne Meadow”s denizens have a social order. The surrounding Forest Fairy Realm hides and protects the Meadow. Forest fairies have the abundance and diversity of the forest in their charge from propagation to harvest. Leaf painting, guarding small animals and the care and guardianship of robins come under the aegis of Forest Fairies, too. Robins are special friends to our fairies. Those designated as Carrier Robins carry heavy parcels or groups of fairies when they are obliged to fly long distances.Trader elves are always looking for willing Carriers to act as pack animals on long trades. And more than once, a greedy elf has tried to steal an egg so he can have his own robin.The queen is usually descended from the Forest Fairies. In this order are Propagators,Harvestors,Guardians, Aviary Trainers, and Autumn Fairies.
Garden Fairies live in the Enchanting Garden. Every kind and color of flower grows there and the garden fairies are charged with seeding, dew drop control, sunshine deflection, color enhancement and wilt prevention. The fairies are as brightly colored as their charges–even their hair–so that they are virtually invisible among the flowers.
The miner elves live in the Mushroom Forest and work in the Elven Mines. They spend so much time in tunnels that they have developed large flat feet extending right out of their bodies. They have beady black eyes and wild green hair. For the most part, they are shy creatures who just love to dig. The Trader Elves are a different matter. They live to trade! Most are hardworking traders and craftsmen. Many have small boats of leaves and twigs that they ply across Shimmering pond to trade with the Garden and Forest fairies . Sadly, though,some are quick and sly and full of mischief. Most of the Queens problems are caused by or include naughty elves.
Shimmering Pond is home to quite a diverse group. There are the Mer people–mermaids to you, the Nixies–an ancient water race with white skin and green hair, and the Thistledown Marauders–a pirate band who sometimes work for the Queen and sometimes for themselves.

The elves aren’t the only naughty trouble makers. The Queens chief problem is Magdor, the pirate fairy. As a child, Magdor’s best friend was Trembledorn, a wizards apprentice. One day Trembledorn tried a spell that he was too inexperienced to do. The result was a terrible wind and lightning and the friend was torn away from Magdor and disappeared. His feelings of despair and helplessness turned Magdor to piracy. His crew, the dreaded Thistledown Marauders traffic in baby silkworms, robins eggs, lightning bugs and other precious booty. The Queen secretly has a soft spot for Magdor and believes that if he had something really special to do he would feel better about himself and it would reverse his guilt at not being able to save his friend.
